Cubs in Camp!

September 5, 2007

The lone female from the Lion Camp pride has brought her three 6 week old cubs into the camp! She has hidden them in the combretum thickets near the workshop. The Mwamba males have been prowling around this area for the last week and we think that maybe she feels safer here in camp (they will kill the cubs if another Lion is the father).

We had an excellent sighting of them this morning when they came out into the sun with their mother. They really are gorgeous and still very clumsy and ungainly! A few shots……

Lion cubs steal blanket!

September 1, 2007

A guest on a game drive from the neighbouring camp must have accidently dropped a blanket near the lion cubs last night. When I came across them this morning they were playing tug of war with it! Eventually the two largest cubs managed to wrestle it away from their siblings before cuddling up on it and falling asleep!

The other four moved off into the sun and fell asleep in a heap.

They eventually lost interest in the blanket as the day got hotter and I was able to retrieve it. It was ripped to shreds though!
