Lion Cub

September 26, 2009

Apologies for the blog being so quiet recently – I have been busy with a photographic safari. The safari went very well with lion sightings on every drive and the cubs were around most of the time as well. We had some excellent leopard sightings also. I will post some pictures as soon as I get a chance to edit them.

I have had a few emails recently asking that I post more pictures of the lion cubs. This is an image from a recent encounter when I came across them high up in a tree.

Tree climbing lions

September 12, 2009

The weather is hotting up now and the lions are starting to take to the trees to try to escape the heat. I found the cubs up in a tree recently as well – will post some images from that encounter soon.

Thirsty leopard

September 5, 2009

It can be tough getting good images of leopards in daylight as they are often in the shade or hidden away in thick vegetation – so to have one walking around in the early morning sunlight today was a wonderful sight. When I came across this young female she had been feeding on her kill in a dense combretum thicket and was heading down to a nearby lagoon for a drink.

Once she had quenched her thirst she jumped over the water and headed off into the bush behind me – a lovely sighting.

Sleeping hyaena

September 5, 2009

This young spotted hyaena was so fast asleep that I was able to get very close to him. When he realised I was nearby he half opened one eye to look at me for a few seconds and then fell asleep again. Perhaps he was having sweet dreams of a succulent, three day old buffalo carcass..
