Elephant eye in Infrared

Elephant eye in Infrared

An interesting effect that I have noticed, is the way that certain animals’ eyes appear in infrared photographs. Their irises look much paler than usual and their pupils become even blacker. What is even more interesting is that the effect only seems to occur in certain species such as in this portrait of an elephant bull. My infrared images of a male puku antelope have the same ghostly eyes but those of leopard and giraffe do not. I’m not sure what causes this but it is a little spooky..!
